Diwali – also known as the festival of lights, the triumph of good over evil is considered as one of the most important and auspicious festivals in India. Although originally a religious festival, it has been adopted by all Indians irrespective of religious beliefs thus now making it a cultural celebration.
On Saturday 22nd October 2016, The City Square (Stadsplein) of Amstelveen will be transformed into a colorful Indian festival area, where young and old can enjoy (free of charge) a festive programme. During this day visitors can learn about many Indian customs combined with a Dutch flavour.
At this festival you will enjoy a wonderful stage programme, with a variety of professional dance and musical perform…ances.
If you love Bollywood dancing or would like to learn how to make henna tattoos please come and visit the workshops at our festival. There will also be a special kids corner, where the little ones will be guided in making all kinds of India related arts and crafts.
Visiting this event will also be a culinary journey! The most recommended Indian restaurants from Amsterdam, Amstelveen and the area will be serving their gorgious foods from every region in India. Even just the food is reason enough to join us at the festival.
At the special market boots you will also be able to purchase beautiful Indian shawls, jewellery, Indian sweets etc. etc.
The event will take place in a huge tent on the City Square. Therefor the weather can not be your excuse for not joining in!
The celebrations start at 12:00 and will end with fireworks at 19:00. Entrance is completely free so you have no reason to miss out!
